Motorists traveling the Breathitt-Pennyrile Parkway in Christian and Hopkins County need to be aware of a traffic shift Friday.
Transportation Cabinet spokesman Keith Todd says the traffic shift is along the parkway concrete pavement rehabilitation project near the KY 2642 Overpass and extends northward to near the U.S. 41 Ramp Overpass near Mannington, a distance of about 13 miles.
The traffic shift will eliminate two-way traffic now running along the southbound lanes. Once the shift is complete, Todd indicates the work zone will have one lane of traffic in each direction running in the right-hand or driving lane.
He says the traffic shift will occur immediately after completion of paving required to facilitate the shift.
Motorists should use caution and be alert for personnel working along the roadway near traffic flow.
Hall Contracting of KY, Inc., is the prime contractor on this rehab project with a price tag of $43.2 million. The target completion date of the project is August 31, 2019.
