Couple Indicted For Assault Of 2-Month Old Baby

A Hopkinsville couple charged with assaulting an infant and a man who attacked another man with an ax were among individuals indicted by the Christian County Grand Jury Friday.

24-year old Cody Hansley and 23-year old Cassandra Jean Hansley, both of Hopkinsville, were indicted for 1st Degree Assault, Domestic Violence. The charges stem from August 12 when police say the couple took their two-month child to Jennie Stuart Medical Center and then infant was flown to Vanderbilt Medical Center in Nashville. Police say doctors determined the infant had multiple brain hemorrhages, a lacerated liver, a ruptured spleen, multiple broken ribs, a fractured wrist, and a fractured femur. Police stated the infant was in the sole care of the couple, by their own admission, when the injuries occurred.

Eddrecus Williams

The grand jury indicted 36-year old Eddrecus Williams of Hopkinsville for 1st Degree Assault in connection to allegedly attacking a man with an ax in the area of Brown and East 4th streets on August 15. Police say the victim suffered lacerations to his head, his neck, arms and other areas of his body. Officers found Williams inside a home on East 7th Street and he was taken into custody.

Shinaka Cooper

And 37-year old Shinaka Cooper of Hopkinsville was indicted for 1st Degree Wanton Endangerment and 2nd Degree Assault. Police say Cooper hit a female victim in the face with a wooden stick while she was holding her one-year-old child. The victim reportedly suffered injuries to her mouth. Officers reported they found the wooden stick in Cooper’s vehicle.
