A Trigg County man was charged with DUI after he allegedly sideswiped another vehicle on West 7th Street Sunday night.
According to Hopkinsville Police, officers responded to the Dollar General regarding an accident that turning into a disturbance. Upon arrival, 49-year old Ricky Smith of Hopkinsville advised officers he was eastbound on West 7th Street in the area of Second Baptist Church when a car sideswiped his vehicle and the two driver’s side mirrors collided. The driver of the other vehicle, identified as Raul Ramirez of Cadiz, reportedly didn’t stop and Smith turned around and followed him to the Dollar General store.
Police say Ramirez had a strong odor of alcoholic beverages, was unsteady on his feet and was slurring. For safety reasons, officers stopped the field sobriety tests.
Ramirez was booked into the Christian County Jail charged with operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol with aggravating circumstances, possession of an open alcoholic beverage container in a motor vehicle, and other charges.
