Police say a Trigg County man is facing DUI and other charges after hitting two vehicles and almost running over students Thursday afternoon.

Cadiz Police arrested 57-year old Jeffrey Hiatt after receiving calls of a possible intoxicated driver on Main Street. The first call received by Trigg County Dispatch said Hiatt allegedly drove through a school crosswalk, nearly running over two students and colliding into a vehicle. Police say  Hiatt fled the scene and hit another vehicle down the road.  The impact of that collision caused the vehicle Hiatt hit to leave the roadway and hit a treeline.

When an officer responded to an accident without injury call, they made contact with Hiatt. Upon contact, the officer reported a strong smell of alcohol and that he had slurred speech. Hiatt was asked to perform field sobriety tests but refused. He was placed in handcuffs and sent to Trigg County Hospital for a blood alcohol test.

Hiatt was lodged in the Christian County Jail on operating a motor vehicle under the influence with aggravating circumstances, DUI suspended license with aggravating circumstances, 1st-degree wanton endangerment, leaving the scene of an accident, failure to yield right of way to pedestrians, and other charges.
