About 1,000 Asian Carp Found Dead In LBL Lakes

Kentucky Fish and Wildlife officials believe environmental conditions killed roughly 1,000 Asian carp found floating in Blood River on Kentucky Lake and in Little River on Lake Barkley.

Fishery Biologist Jessica Morris says they received the report of the dead fish earlier this week.

Unfortunately, she adds the fish had been dead for over 24 hours and in order for them to take samples from the fish for laboratory analysis and determine a specific cause of death, the fish have to be fresh and dead less than 24 hours.

Morris says they believe the cold rain on Monday and an environmental bacteria played a big role in this particular fish kill in Blood River.

This was similar to the large Asian carp kill in the spring of 2017, which was reported by the News Edge.

If you see a large amount of dead fish in the lakes or rivers, Morris says you should call Kentucky Fish and Wildlife in Murray as soon as possible so they can determine an exact cause of death. That number is (270) 759-5295.
