The incumbents and challengers running for the 8th District and 9th District State Representative seats discussed several topics including pension reform during separate debates at Hopkinsville Community College Thursday night.
The first two candidates running for the 9th District State Representative seat, incumbent Republican Myron and challenger Democrat William Coleman had different opinions about pension reform. Dossett said one of the accomplishments he is most proud of is voting to fully fund the state pension system this past session.
His Democratic candidate William Coleman stated he was very dissatisfied with the outcome of the pension reform.
Republican 8th District State Representative Walker Thomas and Democratic challenger Jeff Taylor also discussed the topic of pension reform during their debate. Taylor said he was also dissatisfied with the outcome of the pension reform bill.
Thomas stated they took everything out of the bill that was controversial and he was proud to vote for it, but it’s also one of the state’s biggest obstacles.
The candidates also discussed other issues including efforts to grow rural communities, Medicare expansions, tax reform, and solutions to generate revenue for the state.
