Fugitive Dawson Springs Couple Arrested In Tennessee

A Dawson Springs couple wanted on multiple felony offenses in Hopkins County was captured earlier this month in Tennessee.

According to the Madisonville/Hopkins County Vice/Narcotics Unit, a lengthy investigation led to the arrest of 34-year old Matthew Gregory Jackson and 33-year old Ashley Nicole Laureano on September 5th when they were found by law enforcement agencies living in a stolen camper for about two weeks with an 18-month child.

Authorities say the investigation began on August 7 after a vehicle pursuit with Laureano ended with her crashing the vehicle and fleeing on foot and detectives finding over 108 grams of a white crystal-like substance believed to be meth inside the vehicle. A search warrant was executed at the couple’s residence where police say they seized digital scales, plastic bags, cutting agents and two firearms. On August 23, deputies engaged in another vehicle pursuit, this time with Jackson that also ended when he crashed the vehicle and fled on foot and was not located.

Detectives say they began receiving tips the couple had left the state and tracked them to a RV Park in Waynesboro where they were taken into custody after a short standoff. Police reportedly found over 27 grams of meth, and other drug paraphernalia in the stolen camper, along with three handguns. The young child was taken into custody by the Department of Childrens’ Services.

The couple is facing several charges in Tennessee and Kentucky, including trafficking meth, fleeing from police and gun-related offenses.
