Ninth District State Representative Myron Dossett wants to remind Kentuckians who are receiving unwanted telemarketing calls from fake local phone numbers to report the fraudulent activity to the Attorney General.

During this past session, a release says Dossett, of Pembroke, co-sponsored House Bill 475 which would make it illegal for telemarketers to use fake Kentucky phone numbers. The new law aims to protect Kentuckians from scams and other fraud.

Unfortunately, Dossett says in the release there are people who use their time trying to deceive, scam and defraud others instead of doing something productive. Thankfully, he adds this new law will punish scammers who use fake phone numbers with a hefty fine of up to $1,000.

Kentuckians who have received an unwanted telemarketing call can report the activity at http://nocall.ky.gov/complaint1.asp by calling (502) 696-5300 or you can also call your legislator at (502) 564-8100.
