Military Survivor Appreciation Week At Fort Campbell

Military Survivor Appreciation Week kicked off this past Friday at Fort Campbell and continues through Sunday.

On Friday, a rededication of the Parrish House Survivor Outreach Services Building was held at the home which served Campbell’s commanding generals for 67 years. In 2014, a release says former commanding general of the 101st Airborne Division and Fort Campbell, Major General James McConville donated the Parrish House to Outreach Services for use in helping Gold Star Families find comfort in their time of need.

According to the release, the rededication of Parrish House completes a seven-monthlong repair project, which included replacing kitchen countertops and appliances, painting the interior and exterior of the building, replacing lights and doors, and installing park benches, a playground, and minor landscaping. Army officials say nearly 200 community volunteers contributed to the project.

After the rededication ceremony, the Boots on the Ground display officially opened and will remain open until Sunday at the 101st Airborne Division headquarters, located at 2700 Indiana Avenue.

During Military Survivor Appreciation Week, more than 7,000 military boots standing in memory of fallen service members since 9/11 will line the lawn of the 101st Airborne Division Headquarters building.

On Saturday, the Run for the Fallen was held and the final event during Military Survivor Appreciation Week is the 9/11 Wreath Laying Ceremony at 4:00 Tuesday afternoon at division headquarters.
