The New Madrid Fault is becoming more active. So far since August 1st, there have been 32 small earthquakes recorded. But out of that, 16 of them were recorded within the last 6 days. This coincides with an uptick in earthquakes in the Pacific Rim’s “Ring of Fire” Sixty-nine earthquakes, including 16 tremors registering 4.5 or above on the Richter scale, hit that area over the last couple of weeks, according to the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS). This is no indication that the “Big One” will hit the New Madrid Fault. There is no way to know when that will happen. But everyone in our region should at least review your family’s emergency plan and be prepared just to be on the safe side.
