Two Hopkinsville homes were evacuated and a street is closed after a gas main ruptured Friday morning.

Hopkinsville Fire Department Public Information Officer Captain Michael Pendleton says a contractor accidentally ruptured a 4 inch gas main in the area of the 800 block of South Campbell Street. He adds the two homes were evacuated and cleared of gas. He says ATMOS crews have stopped the leak and are still on the scene repairing the line.

Captain Pendleton indicates the area of South Campbell Street is expected to be closed between 7th and 9th streets until 3:00 Friday afternoon.
