U.S. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell delivered remarks Tuesday on the Senate floor regarding the appropriations legislation that will provide support for Fort Campbell and other military installations across the nation.
This week, Senator McConnell says the Senate is considering the eighth and ninth of twelve appropriations measures for the Fiscal Year 2019, which he indicates will deliver on some of the most important promises they make to the American people. He adds if they send our military into battle, they need to ensure they will be prepared and equipped to prevail.
McConnell says our military leaders have outlined the threats we face and the stategies it will take to check them. But, he adds they have also explained how the past decade’s pattern of inconsistent and insufficient funding undermined readiness and borrowed from the future. However, he adds this Congress and this president are determined to right the ship.

Now, this week, McConnell says they have the opportunity to follow through by appropriating the necessary resources.

He adds this legislation will ensure our military will receive some well-deserved benefits.

Senator McConnell concluded by saying it’s impossible to put a price on sacrifices and warfighters — and their families — make in service to our nation, but it is within their power to give them the support they deserve on behalf of the a grateful nation, which is precisely what this legislation will do. He then urged his colleagues in the Senate to join him in supporting the bipartisan measure when the time comes to pass it.
