A Hopkinsville man, police say was under the influence of drugs, was arrested after a physical confrontation with emergency medical personnel Friday morning.

According to Hopkinsville police, officers were dispatched to the Hopkinsville Fire Department on East 1st Street just after 8:35 a.m. where 32-year old Matthew Croft was being combative with EMS personnel. Upon arrival, police say Croft was being held down on the ground and resisting several firefighters. Officers were told Croft had come to the fire station seeking help and then began fighting the EMS personnel assisting him. Croft reportedly told officers he would not get into the police cruiser and had to be dragged into the vehicle from both sides. Police say Croft said he had been smoking methamphetamine for three days. Officers indicate he continued to be disorderly while at Jennie Stuart Medical Center by yelling obscenities at nurses.

Croft was lodged in the Christian County Jail charged with 3rd Degree Assault, Resisting Arrest, and Public Intoxication involving a Controlled Substance.
