For the second time this week all gates at the Fort Campbell Army Base were closed Friday morning after a vehicle entered the installation without stopping. Military officials reported all gates were closed around 8:30 and would remain closed until the vehicle was located or the situation was deemed all clear. All gates were reopened and operational a short time later.

The first incident occurred around 8:15 Tuesday night when Army officials reported a vehicle had entered without stopping. Fort Campbell Army officials say a motorist entered the post illegally, without providing proper identification. In accordance with post security procedures, all gates were closed while Fort Campbell’s Military Police pursued the vehicle and after it was determined there was no threat to the installation, gates were reopened about 1.5 hours later. Officials indicate the driver was identified and apprehended for criminal trespassing.

For security reasons, Fort Campbell officials say they do not discuss specific gate operations. However, their military police regularly train for incidents like these and responded according to established procedures. Army officials add the safety and security of the post community remains their priority.
