UPDATE – One Dead, One Critical After Woodland Heights Fire

Kentucky State Police are conducting a death investigation into an apartment complex fire in Hopkinsville early Tuesday morning that claimed the life of a man and left a woman in critical condition.

Kentucky State Police Public Information Officer Trooper Rob Austin say they were called to Apartment Complex G7 shortly after 4:00 after first responders found 25-year old David Keys deceased. Christian County Coroner Mike Stokes identified the deceased victim as David Keys of Windsor Drive in Hopkinsville, but Trooper Austin Keys says his operator’s license has Keys’ address listed as New Albany, Indiana. Stokes pronounced Keys dead on the scene. Trooper Austin says an autopsy confirmed Keys’ death was due to smoke inhalation.

Trooper Austin identified the victim flown to Vanderbilt Unversity Medical Center as 22-year old Andra Pool of Hopkinsville, who he says is listed in critical condition.

Hopkinsville Fire Department Public Information Officer Captain Michael Pendleton reports three ambulances and firefighters with Highland Fire Department were dispatched to the apartment complex around 2:15 Tuesday morning.

Trooper Austin says the cause of the fire remains under investigation by a KSP Arson Investigator and foul play is not suspected.
