A Hopkinsville man is facing charges after he allegedly fled from police trying to make a traffic stop Monday night.

Hopkinsville Police report officers observed a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed and running the stop sign at Elm Street and Means Avenue just before 7:15 p.m. They say the driver, later identified as 23-year old Demarius Henry, and two other vehicles continued onto Means Avenue at a high rate of speed weaving in the roadway and causing immediate danger to a large number of children and families near the road. Once officers got behind Henry, they say he accelerated and turned onto 20th Street and then pulled into an alley on Alumini Avenue. Police indicate Henry had slumped down in the seat in an attempt to hide from officers. After a K-9 hit on the vehicle, offices reportedly found numerous prescription bottles with marijuana residue inside along with a small digital scale.

Henry was booked into the Christian County Jail charged with Reckless Driving, 1st Degree Fleeing or Evading Police in a Motor Vehicle, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.
