Friends of Land Between the Lakes is hoping to raise funds in order to provide a new home for the bobcat at the Woodlands Nature Station. The Friends of LBL has launched a RedBasket.org online fundraising campaign to raise $35,000 for the new enclosure.

Lead Naturalist John Pollpeter says in a release they hope all of their friends and regular visitors to the Woodlands Nature Station will take this opportunity to support this project with a financial donation. He notes the existing enclosure was built in 1995. He adds a new habitat will offer the bobcat a more natural and enriching space. Pollpeter says the plan is to include more environmental features such as tall grass, boulders, rock shelves and hollow logs, which will lead to more exercise and shelter for their bobcat friend.

Friends of LBL Executive Director John Rufli says a challenge will be constructing the new enclosure in a short amount of time that will provide the least impact to the bobcat’s routine as well as a minimal impact to the visitors’ experiences at the Nature Station. He adds this is a tremendous opportunity for their supporters to help them fulfil their mission of environmental education.

To donate, go to https://redbasket.org/1699/back-the-bobcat-barrens.

The site will be available for donations through August 16.
