The Christian County Sheriff’s Office have released the details regarding a pursuit that ended after the suspects reportedly crashed a vehicle into a deputy’s cruiser Sunday afternoon.
According to the report, a deputy responded to a burglary in progress in the 12,000 block of Old Fruithill Road in which the caller stated April Stewart was in the home without permission. There was also a white male, later identified as 25-year old Carl Tehada of Hopkinsville, with her who was reportedly carrying a television out of the home. They were both seen getting into a vehicle and heading toward Hopkinsville and were spotted by another deputy on Greenville Road, which is where the pursuit began.
Deputies report Stewart reached speeds of 110 mph before she turned onto East 7th Street and she ran several stop signs and red lights before a deputy lost sight of the vehicle. Hopkinsville Police reportedly found it and followed Stewart onto Denzil Drive and South Virginia streets at which time Stewart disregarded a stop sign on 20th and South Virginia streets and collided into a deputy sheriff’s SUV, who was arriving at the scene.
The deputy was uninjured, but authorities say Stewart was transported to Jennie Stuart Medical Center for treatment of a severely broken ankle and then transferred to Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville. Stewart was already wanted on several active arrest warrants and now faces additional charges when she is released from the hospital.
Tehada was taken into custody at the scene and lodged in the Christian County Jail charged with 2nd Degree Burglary.
