New Sales Tax For State Parks And Recreation Services

Individuals or organizations utilizing any parks and recreation areas statewide will be paying more for services come Sunday, thanks to a new Kentucky law. The Kentucky legislature passed Tax Bill 487 in April, which goes into effect July 1st, implementing a 6% sales tax associated with statewide Parks and Recreation offerings that were not previously taxed.

Hopkinsville Parks and Recreation Director Tab Brockman tells the News Edge it will impact almost everything they have available to the public.

He adds any unpaid rental or other park-related fees due to the Hopkinsville Parks and Recreation events will be subject to this tax. He say any deposits associated with league entries or facility rentals will not be taxed, unless the deposit is part of the actual event entry fee, at which time the entire league/event fee will be taxed when paid in full.

If you would like to avoid this tax, Brockman says please pay your outstanding invoice amount or submit a tax exemption form by no later than Friday. He notes non-profit entities will be exempted from the sales tax by presenting the appropriate forms for future events.
