During a Kentucky Wired Project update Tuesday, Christian County Fiscal Court magistrates learned there will be seventeen high-speed broadband sites throughout the county when the project is completed in a couple of years.

Design Build, LLC representative Jim Askins, of Lexington, says the project is to put high-speed broadband access, the fiber optic cable itself, in all 120 counties in the state to provide better internet access in the Commonwealth and improve economic development.

He notes this is a middle-mile project in which they can only install at specific sites in Christian County as allowed by the state.

Askins adds the infrastructure is in place to allow access to public and private entities, new or existing entities, or partnerships in order to expand broadband in the local community.

Askins says the state is divided into six areas for the project called rings. He notes Christian County is in ring four, by far the largest ring stretching from Interstate 65 to the Mississippi River and has a completion date of 2020.
