Deer Reportedly Causes Injury Wreck On I-24

Authorities have released the details of a single vehicle wreck that occurred last Wednesday night on Interstate 24 in Christian County that sent two men to the hospital with injuries.

The Christian County Sheriff’s Office reports 18-year old Jorge Benitez, no address listed, was driving eastbound on I-24 when he stated to EMS he swerved to miss a deer that ran out into the roadway. Benitez then reportedly lost control of his car and slammed into a guard rail on the right shoulder of the road. Deputies say impact caused 15 feet of the rail and laid over several posts.

The report says Benitez and his passenger, 20-year old Gerardo Correa of Fort Campbell, were transported by ambulance to Blanchfield Army Community Hospital for treatment.

According to the report, the wreck occurred about 4 miles southeast of Oak Grove shortly after 9:40 Wednesday night.
