Possible Live Grenade Found In Slaughters

investigation

State Police are investigating a possible live grenade that was discovered in an empty field in Hopkins County.

Police say an individual found the grenade while he was metal detecting in the field. He then transported the explosive to the Downtown Market in Slaughters and notified law enforcement.

KSP responded, set up a perimeter, and evacuated the area. Currently, police say State Route 138, US 41 New Hope Road, and the rail way are shut down. Police say a Hazardous Device Investigator is on the scene to render the grenade safe.

KSP is advising the public not to touch or transport any possible explosive. If you find an explosive, you should contact law enforcement immediately and make sure everyone stays as far away from the device as possible.

The Webster County Sheriff’s Department, Hanson Fire Department, Clay Police Department, and the Hopkins County Sheriff’s Office is assisting KSP on the scene.
