Man Charged With Leaving Child In Hot Car

Police say an intoxicated Clarksville man is facing charges after he left an infant inside a hot car outside a store Friday night.

Clarksville Police spokesman Jim Knoll says officers responded to a call around midnight Friday at Walmart Neighborhood Market at 216 Dover Road about a man who was possibly intoxicated leaning against a pole and bobbing around. When officers arrived, they found Demarcus Lynch asleep by a Stop sign in the parking lot and smelling of alcoholic beverages. Knoll notes officers have not determined how Lynch arrived at the Dover location but his car was in found running in the parking lot with an unattended one year old boy in the back seat. Officers say the child was seating profusely and the car’s air conditioner was not turned on. Based on the investigation and limited details available, police believe the child was along in the car over four hours.

24-year old Demarcus Lynch was arrested and lodged in the Montgomery County Jail under a $25,000 bond on charges of Aggravated Child Abuse and Public Intoxication.

Knoll indicates the child was unharmed and turned over to a family member.
