A Hopkinsville man was arrested for arson after police say he set a porch on fire at an apartment complex on Moores Drive Thursday night.

Hopkinsville Police report officers responded to the call at 10pm of a male wearing a white shirt who poured gasoline on the porch, set it on fire and then fled. Upon arrival, officers say the fire had been extinguished but the resident had gasoline on her as well. The report says the male was identified as 52-year old Jerome Catlett, who was located by officers in a woodline between Hayes Street and Howell Street about 15 minutes later. Catlett reportedly still had the lighter in his hand and he was also covered in gasoline.

According to police, there were nine occupants inside the building at the time the fire was ignited.

Catlett was taken into custody and booked into the Christian County Jail charged with 1st Degree Arson.
