Police say an alarm activation at a liquor store on the Boulevard Thursday morning led to the arrest of a Hopkinsville man.

Hopkinsville Police responded to the alarm call shortly before 2:00am at the Copper Still located at 2109 Fort Campbell Boulevard. Upon arrival, officers found the drive thru window unsecured, but the metal bars located behind the window and everything inside didn’t appear to be out of place. While an officer was getting back into his vehicle, he reportedly noticed a car parked across the street with the headlights out near the back of a closed business. The officer parked on the lot of the Horseshoe restaurant to see if the vehicle would leave when officers were no longer in sight, which police say it did.

Officers pulled the vehicle over in the 2300 block of South Virginia Street and say they found the driver, 33-year old Matthew Riley, with a flashlight between his legs, and a crowbar and bolt cutters in the back seat.

Riley was taken into custody and lodged in the Christian County Jail charged with Possession of Burglary Tools, and License to be in Possession.
