Police say a Texas man previously convicted of manslaughter was arrested in Madisonville after detectives found a gun and marijuana in his vehicle during a traffic stop Monday afternoon.

Around 1:50pm, the Madisonville-Hopkins County VICE/Narcotics Unit reports detectives were conducting surveillance on the north side of Madisonville due to recent drug complaints when they observed a southbound SUV traveling 65 mph in a 45 mph zone on North Main Street.

Detectives say they conducted a traffic stop and when they made contact with the driver, 43-year old Kelcey Dunn, of Houston, they smelled a strong odor of marijuana coming from inside the vehicle. Detectives then conducted a probable cause search and reportedly found several grams of marijuana and a concealed 9mm handgun.

Detectives indicate a criminal history check of Dunn showed he was convicted of Manslaughter in 1997.

Dunn was taken into custody and lodged in the Hopkins County Jail charged with Speeding 15 MPH Over Limit, Possession of Marijuana, and Possession of a Handgun by Convicted Felon.
