CCPS Board Presented Transportation Update

Total expenditures for transportation are down in the Christian County School District from four years ago because of several changes, according to Director of Transportation Mike Brumley. During the regular school board meeting Thursday night, he stated total expenditures are down about $700,000.

He also listed a few other changes that helped reduce expenses.

Brumley says they have cut bus routes from 114 in 2010 to 96 routes. He adds bus driver shortages have been plaguing transportation departments across the nation, as well as in Christian County. He notes they have trained 33 drivers, but for various reasons they currently have 21 bus drivers.

Brumley notes they travel an average of about two million miles a year.

Another thing he says they are working on is active shooter/weapon awareness training with all drivers and monitors this summer, as well as some changes in procedures and protocol.

Brumley notes the most important update to him and always will be is, to date, they have transported all students to and from school safely. He adds anytime you can do that in a year, it’s a blessing.

Board members also unanimously approved agreements with law enforcement agencies. Chief Operations Officer Brad Hawkins says the agreement with the Christian County Sheriff’s Department is different than in past years.

He then presented the law enforcement agreement with the Hopkinsville Police Department for four police officers.

In other business, board members approved the Hopkinsville High School 2018 partial reroofing project for an estimated total cost of $251,638, and the partial reroofing project at Indian Hills Elementary School with an estimated total price tag of $377,426.

The next special board meeting and workshop is scheduled for Thursday night, May 3 at 6:00 and the next regular meeting is set for Thursday night, May 17, at 6:00pm.
