Murray Man Charged In Multi-State Theft Investigation

A Murray man has been arrested in connection with numerous thefts related to the selling of large equipment in several states.

Kentucky State Police say 37 year old Matthew P. Crawford, of Murray, was arrested and charged with five counts of Theft by Deception Under $10,000, five counts of Theft by Deception Over $10,000, and four counts of Theft by Failure to Make Required Disposition. Crawford was lodged in the Calloway County Jail.

In early January, the Kentucky State Police began receiving information concerning possible fraudulent business transactions related to the sale of large equipment.

That investigation identified victims in Kansas, North Carolina, Vermont, Texas, Indiana, Michigan, Illinois, and Ohio. The total amount of large equipment fraudulently sold totaled nearly $750,000.
KSP has been in communication with the Federal Bureau of Investigation and will be working with them in regards to any related federal charges.

The Kentucky State Police was assisted by the Murray Police Department in the arrest of Crawford. The investigation continues by Detective Jody Cash. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Kentucky State Police Post 1 anonymously at 800-222-5555.
