It’s not a topic most people like to talk about, but April is STD, or Sexually Transmitted Disease, Awareness Month.
Christian County Health Department spokeswoman Amanda Bassingthwaite says it’s a subject most shy away from or avoid, but the STD rate across the nation is at an all time high, according to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC). She adds that is also the case in Christian County.

She notes they have great programs in place at the health department from education and prevention of STDs to setting boundaries.

Since STD can be an uncomfortable topic, Bassingthwaite says they also have significant programs for parents.

And, they have a Draw the Line, Respect the Line program for 6th through 8th grade students.

Bassingthwaite adds that students want someone to talk to and the Christian County Health Department has the tools to help educate them as well as those in the community.
