A local farmer escaped injury when his tractor caught fire near Gracey Thursday afternoon. Square Deal and Gracey Volunteer Fire Departments responded to the tractor fire shortly after 5:00pm that occurred in a field off of Kentucky 117 South about one mile from Gracey. Black smoke billowing from the tractor could be seen for several miles.

Square Deal Volunteer Fire Chief Keith Sholar told the News Edge the operator of the tractor, Gary Lester was not injured. Sholar says he’s unsure what started the tractor fire, but that Lester stated he thought it ignited in the engine.

The tractor was a total loss.
