Police say a Hopkinsville man was arrested Thursday morning on a warrant on charges of 1st Degree Criminal Abuse of a Child Under 12 and Tampering With Physical Evidence. Hopkinsville Police say 28-year old Bobby Oliver was taken into custody at 10:10am at a residence in the 100 block of North McPherson Avenue.

The arrest warrant says a two-year old child, while in the sole care of Oliver on March 7, suffered burns to his buttocks and calves, a bloody lip and bruising to both sides of his face and neck, as well as bruising and redness to his stomach and private area. Oliver reportedly did not transport the child for medical treatment or contact EMS. The warrant says Oliver advised a Hopkinsville Police detective that he was working on a moped and it fell over on the child, which the Department of Child Based Services and a forensic review deemed was inconsistent with the actual injuries. Oliver could not be found during the investigation and the detective reports they found the purported moped in a shed at a friend’s house. Police say they also found bloody pajamas and a bloody towel in a garbage can outside Oliver’s residence.

Following the execution of the arrest warrant, Oliver was lodged in the Christian County Jail.
