An audit into the Trigg County Sheriff’s Office led the fiscal court on Monday to pass unanimously a resolution clarifying the department’s collection of fire dues. The resolution “expressly directs” the sheriff to charge the same dues that office has been charging for the last 15 years.

The court moved to address the auditor’s finding of ambiguity in an ordinance previously passed in December 2002, according to the resolution. That ordinance formally authorized the sheriff to collect annual membership dues owed to volunteer fire departments with a one percent fee.

Judge-Executive Hollis Alexander says the auditor suggested the court make that clear.

The resolution goes on to say the sheriff’s commission is equivalent to that charged to all other local taxing districts for such services. The court also approved the purchase of a tractor, bush hog, and grader blade from H&R Agri Power in the amount of $74,004.

Contained in the minutes approved by the court was a description of its emergency meeting March 23. That meeting was called in order to discuss an invoice from Akins Construction for payment for the “Trigg County Baseball Facility” in the amount of $12,501.

Contained in the monthly expenditure report was the repair of the Trigg County Court Annex wall and roof by Craig Fowler in the amount of $12,430. The court wrapped up by going into executive session to discuss the acquisition or sale of real property. No action was taken afterward.
