The Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) is delaying repairs of a sinkhole on Interstate 24 in Montgomery County until after rain moves through Monday afternoon. TDOT officials say the sinkhole is near the nine mile marker. At this time, they indicate two lanes are open and the only lane closed is the third ‘truck’ lane.

According to TDOT, all three lanes will be closed and eastbound traffic will be stopped as soon as heavy repair equipment arrives on the scene. There is not estimate of how long repairs will take or how long the eastbound lanes will be closed. However, when the lanes are closed eastbound drivers are urged to find alternate routes and avoid the area.
