Authorities say a Tennessee man who stole a vehicle in Graves County was arrested Tuesday in Christian County. The Graves County Sheriff’s Office says they received a report of a vehicle being stolen in the Wingo community around 6:00 Tuesday morning. Upon arrival, the victim told deputies she had started her car to let it warm up and went back inside, and when she went back out to her vehicle it was gone. The investigating deputy found the truck in the immediate area with no frost on it and Tennessee registration. After contacting Martin, Tennessee Police, it was determined the truck belonged to James Norton III.

As the investigation continued, the sheriff’s office says they believed Norton was on his way to Collierville, Tennessee and other law enforcement agencies were alerted. The Christian County Sheriff’s Office reportedly found Norton walking down a rural road and they contacted the Graves County Sheriff’s Office to get further information. Authorities say deputies with the Christian County Sheriff’s Office then located the stolen vehicle.

Norton was arrested by the Christian County Sheriff’s Office and he was lodged in the Christian County Jail. He is charged with Public Intoxication (other than alcohol), Possession of Drug Paraphernalia after deputies found syringes with drug residue, and Receiving Stolen Property Over $500. Deputies also served a Graves County arrested warrant for Theft By Unlawful Taking or Disposition – Auto $500 or More But Under $10,000. The Graves County Sheriff’s Office says Norton will be transported to the Graves County Jail to face this charge.
