Hopkinsville Community College is continuing to collect items for students affected by the February 24 tornadoes. HCC Advancement Officer, Yvette Eastham says four students lost everything they owned in the tornado and in response the college initiated a personal hygiene drive to help, which she adds is going quite well.

In addition, she says they are receiving cash donations in order to provide further assistance to students.

She says the HCC Foundation has also been able to provide text books to the students.

Eastham adds they have been actively engaged and although the drive ends Friday, she says they have discovered their students, especially among adult students, have quite a need to have some ongoing support.

She notes this is one way, a simple way, but a very important way that the Hopkinsville Community College community has rallied to support their students.Eastham says they are also looking at setting up a student emergency fund and will make an announcement about that soon.

If you would like to donate personal hygiene items or cash, Eastham says they can be directed to the Advancement Office at HCC. They also have collection bins for the items in every building on the Hopkinsville and Fort Campbell campuses, or she adds items and money donations can be brought to the administration building.
