Caldwell County Schools has a new superintendent. During a special called meeting Tuesday night, the Caldwell County Board of Education unanimously approved to offer the job to Nathan Huggins, who currently is the assistant superintendent in the Elizabethtown Independent School District, according to the Princeton-Times Leader.

Huggins holds an undergraduate degree from Western Kentucky University, where he also received his Rank 1, and a master’s degree from Central Michigan University. He began his career in education in 1998 as a teacher in Elizabethtown, after retiring earlier that year as a U.S. Army lieutenant colonel. He went on to serve as assistant principal at LaRue County Middle School and Elizabethtown High School before accepting his current position and serving as assistant superintendent for the last ten years.

Huggins will replace current interim superintendent Randy McCarty, who the newspaper says was appointed to the role last summer after the departure of long-time superintendent Carrell Boyd.
