Pothole Patching May Not Last

Weather and rising floodwaters are expected to create some unusually hazardous driving conditions over the next couple of weeks. Kentucky Transportation Cabinet Crews have patched as many potholes as possible during the dry sunny weather the last few days. However, officials say much of that effort may disappear as rain returns to the region Wednesday and Thursday.

While only about an inch of rain is expected across most of the region, it will be enough to soak into potholes, loosen asphalt patching material, and allow potholes to reappear. The rain will also serve to cover potholes, making them harder for motorists to spot and dodge on their daily commute.

KY Highway Crews will be back out on the road on patching duty after the rain moves through. Motorists are urged to slow down and use extra caution as potholes are expected to continue to be a problem until drier weather helps crews to get the upper hand in the ongoing battle.
