Public Library Approves Operational Cuts To Cover Pension Increase

Most public agencies are feeling the crunch from state pension issues and the Hopkinsville-Christian County Public Library will be no different. Monday night, the Library Board approved a clean audit for last year and an over $1 million 2018-2019 budget.

Board Chair, Jerry Gilliam says a majority of the cut was to cover increased costs.

The Board committed to including raises for all staff members in the budget and Gilliam says that could be as little as a dollar in some cases. The budget still has to go before the City and County to request additional funds from them.

Ryann Mabry also serves on the budget committee. Despite the forced and opted increases, with the cuts, the approved budget only reflects a 6 percent overall change from this year.
