Hopkinsville Storm Survey Released By NWS

The National Weather Service says the storm that struck Hopkinsville Saturday night took a curved pass that began at the boulevard and ended just east of Hopkinsville. According to the storm survey the tornado first touched down around 8:44 pm and remained on the ground until 8:55 pm.

The tornado had peak winds of 135 miles per hour, traveled 5.8 miles and had a peak width of 200 yards. The tornado began near the Fort Campbell Boulevard where the building that houses Linda’s Tax Service and Audio Specialties sustained major damage. Other buildings in the damage path included the old Kmart building, with several trees down near the Social Security office and the former Skyline Supper Club. The storm left a path of damage that included several buildings in the Eagle Crossing apartment complex, Atmos Energy, the real estate office next to it, the stop lights at the Pennyrile Parkway interchange with US 41-the Pembroke Road and the Malcolm Oatts farm at the intersection of Martin Luther King, Jr, Way and US 68 East and then ending near Overby Lane.

A total of nine people were injured by the storm, with three taken to Jennie Stuart Medical Center.
