Area Legislators Talk Pension And Budget

Area legislators say a proposed state budget could be presented this week or next in the Kentucky House of Representatives, with the Senate to continuing debating the proposed pension plan. Five local legislators discussed a number of issues during the Legislative Update Program recorded Saturday at H & R Agri-power.

Third District State Senator Whitney Westerfield says the proposed pension plan does address many of the concerns about proposals that were presented last year.

First District State Senator Stan Humphries says there is still quite a bit of concern about the pension plan that legislators will be discussing.

Meanwhile, Kentucky House members say a budget will likely surface this week or next in that chamber. 9th District State Representative Myron Dossett says they are closely monitoring the budget to gauge the effect on local government.

4th District Representative Lynn Bechler says some of the Governor’s proposed cuts are not 100 percent.

8th District Representative Walker Thomas says he is watching closely what local transportation needs are addressed in the six-year road plan.

The legislator’s comments can be heard Sunday’s after the Noon News Edge on 96.5-100.9 WHVO.
