Motorcyclist Flown To Hospital After Wreck

A motorcyclist was flown to a Nashville hospital after a crash on the Pennyrile Parkway northbound ramp Monday afternoon. The Christian County Sheriff's Office reports the wreck occurred around 2:40pm when 47-year old Troy Vowells, of Hopkinsville, was following a left curve on the ramp and hit some loose gravel, causing him to lose control of the motorcycle and hit a guardrail. Vowells was ejected from the motorcycle, which continued to slide across the road about 100 feet.

Deputies indicate Vowell suffered multiple injuries to his face, arms, and legs. They say the most serious injury appeared to be to Vowell's left leg.

Vowell was transported by ambulance to a helicopter waiting at Jennie Stuart Medical Center at which time he was flown to Skyline Medical Center in Nashville for treatment.

The sheriff's office says strong wind gusts may have been a factor in the accident as well as the patch of loose gravel.
