Man Charged With Burglary At Vacant School Building

A Hopkinsville man has been arrested in connection to a burglary after reportedly removing items from an empty school building. Hopkinsville Police report officers were dispatched to the old Highland Elementary School at 141 Highland School Road just after 8:00 Monday morning for a burglary in progress. Upon arrival, officers found 41-year old Michael Snyder getting into his pickup truck loaded with numerous light fixtures in the bed of the truck. Police say Snyder admitted that he went inside the school building and removed about 20 light fixtures to sell for scrap metal after he had gotten permission from someone named Frank with the Christian County Public School District.

Police say they contacted school officials and were informed the district no longer owned the building. Shortly after arriving on the scene, one of the school building's owners arrived on site and stated that he had not given permission to anyone to be inside the school building, adding that each light fixture cost about $75.00.

Snyder was taken into custody and booked into the Christian County Jail charged with 3rd Degree Burglary.
