Proposed Budget Cuts Forces CCPS Staffing Cuts

If the proposed education cuts coming out of Frankfort become reality, it would mean staffing reductions in the Christian County Public School District. During Thursday night’s school board meeting, Chief Administrative Officer, Laura Morris presented the draft staffing allocation for 2018-2019 based on a worst case scenario, which would mean reductions in Certified and Classified positions.



She adds that some assistant positions in the schools would be retained.



Morris says the reductions would save the district around $1 million. This would be the most reductions of the staffing allocation ever made in the district. She notes if there are fewer reductions from the state than are in the current budget, they can revisit the staffing allocation in April.

The draft was approved by a 4-0 vote. Board member Geoff Bailey was absent from the meeting.

In other business, board members unanimously approved non-resident student contracts for Trigg, Hopkins, Caldwell, Todd and other neighboring districts.

Prior to the vote, Director of Pupil Personnel Melanie Barrett presented a cost analysis of the non-resident student contracts over the past five years, comparing the financial cost versus the financial benefit for the district.



With the education cuts and the financial loss of the non-resident student contacts, Board Chair Linda Keller says they will need to look at everything more closely in the future.



In other action, board members unanimously approved fees for the 2018-19 school year, as well as the preliminary design, final design and the price tag of $36,657 for the Millbrooke Elementary School Resource Room Project.
