Deputy Slightly Injured During Scuffle With DUI Suspect

A Trigg County Sheriff's deputy was slightly injured early Friday morning during an arrest of a Cadiz man. Deputy Jason Key tells the News Edge he made a traffic stop on a vehicle driven by 33-year old James Randolph Crenshaw after he observed him driving erratically on Kings Chapel Road shortly after 2:00am. During the stop at Candy Drive, he says Crenshaw exited the vehicle and produced a fake driver's license. When Deputy Key asked Crenshaw for his registration, he says Crenshaw said he didn't recognize any type of registration in any state and he didn't recognize the deputy's authority to pull him over.

Deputy Key says he then informed Crenshaw that he needed to conduct tests to determine if he was driving under the influence, which Crenshaw refused and stated he felt like he was in duress. Deputy Key explained to Crenshaw if he didn't take any test he would be placed under arrest. At that time, Deputy Key says a scuffle ensued and Crenshaw was tased to bring him under control, but he fled on foot.

Crenshaw was lodged in the Christian County Jail charged with Driving Under the Influence, Possession of Marijuana, Criminal Possession of a Forged Instrument, Resisting Arrest, 2nd Degree Fleeing or Evading Police on Foot, and Tampering with Physical Evidence.

Deputy Key was slightly injured in the struggle and says he went to Trigg County Hospital where he was treated and released.
