Man Charged For Leaving Accident Scene, Failing To Render Aid

Police say a Hopkinsville man involved in a two vehicle injury wreck near Hopkinsville High School was charged with leaving the scene of an accident and failing to render aid. The wreck occurred at the intersection of Gateway Lane and Greenwood Drive around 9:45 Wednesday morning.

Hopkinsville Police report 26-year old Mark Strigler was driving a W&S Services van northbound on Greenwood Drive and 61-year old Sharian Smith of Hopkinsville was westbound on Gateway Lane. Smith and Strigler both said the other one failed to stop at a stop sign. However, police say there is no stop sign for vehicles traveling in the direction Smith was driving at the time of the collision. Smith reportedly told officers that Strigler got out of his van and handed her business card. She said he then stated there were no damages to the vehicle and left the scene.

Police say Smith complained of a minor neck injury from the crash and was transported by ambulance to Jennie Stuart Medical Center for treatment.

Strigler was found later that day and cited to court.
