US Census Change Will Count Soldiers At Fort Campbell

The population in Christian and Montgomery counties could see a significant increase in the 2020 census. A major federal legislative priority for the Christian County Chamber of Commerce was changing the way soldiers were counted during the U.S. Census. President and CEO, Kelli Pendleton told the Military Affairs Committee of the decision Wednesday morning.

The previous policy allowed Navy members to be counted at their port of call, but deployed soldiers had to be counted at their home of record. The updated policy would require the Census Bureau to count all deployed service members at the base or port in which they resided prior to deployment.

The Christian County Chamber of Commerce has been advocating for this change for several years and it has been a priority for the Chamber’s Military Affairs Program.
