Bevin Hosts Governor’s Prayer Breakfast Tuesday

Governor Matt Bevin hosted the 52nd Annual Kentucky Governor’s Prayer Breakfast Tuesday morning in Lexington. He was joined by approximately 1,200 community leaders, elected officials, private citizens and members of the faith-based community.

According to a release, the breakfast featured an inspirational message from University of Kentucky Head Baseball Coach, Nick Mingione, and keynote speaker Albert Veksler, director of the Jerusalem Prayer Breakfast Movement.

Sisters Reinette Kroeger and Lynette Shelton of Covington’s Notre Dame Urban Education Center received the 2018 William Cooper Faith and Community In Action Award, named for the late Reverend William Jefferson Cooper Sr., founder of the Kentucky Governor’s Prayer Breakfast. Kroeger and Shelton founded the education center in 2009 to impact the lives of inner-city children through education, cultural enrichment, and faith.

Reverend Matt Reagan delivered the invocation and Rabbi Moshe Smolkin offered thoughts for 2018. Public Protection Cabinet Secretary David Dickerson and State Representative Derrick Graham read scripture passages. Other participants included Commissioner of Agriculture Ryan Quarles, State Representative Kim King, and Trigg County native, Chief Justice John D. Minton, Jr.
