Failure To Wear Seatbelt Leads To Drug Arrest

Police say a traffic stop for failure to wear a seatbelt netted the arrest of a Hopkinsville man after cocaine and marijuana were found inside his vehicle. Hopkinsville Police say 25-year old Shawn Boykin was observed without his seatbelt driving a vehicle westbound on West 14th Street shortly before 2:45 Monday afternoon. After the officer activated his emergency siren and lights, police say Boykin continued on until he pulled into a driveway on Richard Street. Upon contact, the officer says he saw a marijuana roach on the driver door handle after Boykin opened the door. During a search of the vehicle, the officer reportedly found a clear plastic knotted baggie with a solid white substance which field tested positive for cocaine.

Boykin was lodged in the Christian County Jail charged with Possession of Marijuana, 1st Degree Possession of a Controlled Substance (Cocaine), 2nd Degree Fleeing or Evading Police in Motor Vehicle, Failure to Wear Seat Belts, License to be in Possession, and No Registration Plates.
