Soyars Announces Run For County Attorney Seat

The Assistant County Attorney for Christian County announced Thursday his candidacy for the County Attorney seat. John Soyars says it was with a strong sense of humility, hope and great optimism for the future of Christian County and its citizens that he announces his candidacy for the seat.

Soyars is a Hopkinsville High School graduate. He also graduated from the University of Notre Dame and then went to Vanderbilt Law School, where he received his law degree in 1990 and returned to his hometown of Hopkinsville.

Soyars says he came into the profession of law by his father’s example. His father, the late Judge Tom Soyars served as Christian County Attorney until 1980 when he was elected Circuit Judge.

He adds he has been extremely fortunate to have served as an Assistant County Attorney for current County Attorney Mike Foster for 27 years. Soyars says he was humbled and honored when Mike asked him to run for County Attorney to succeed him.

In addition to serving as Assistant County Attorney, he practices private law at Foster, Soyars and Associates in Hopkinsville.

Soyars announcement comes one day after County Attorney Mike Foster announced he would not be seeking reelection to the seat.
