Hopkinsville Prepared For Winter Emergency Response

Mayor Carter Hendricks is reassuring the public that Hopkinsville personnel are ready and mobilizing in preparation of winter weather. He is urging residents to use extreme caution, use discretion while traveling, increase stopping distances, and allow more time to reach your destination. Whenever travel is not necessary, he says motorists are encouraged to stay home.

Mayor Carter says Public Works will have crews coming in at 4:00 Friday morning to start treating streets when the rain start to change over to freezing rain. He notes priority routes will be treated first and then secondary routes. He indicates road crews will be running two 12-hour shifts to make sure streets are being treated and plowed throughout the duration of the winter storm.

For people looking to get out of the extreme cold during the day, Mayor Carter indicates the lobby of the Salvation Army is open as well as Micah Mission and Coffee Connection. For after-hours or overflow assistance, the public is invited to check with the Salvation Army for emergency shelter or make use of a warming station in the lobby of Hopkinsville Police Department.

Mayor Carter is also encouraging the public to proactively prepare for severe weather by taking the following steps:

– Staying informed
– Making a plan
– Making a list of emergency phone numbers
– Maintaining an emergency supply kit

At this time if inclement occurs, he says Hopkinsville Transit officials anticipate service will operate on a two to three-hour delay.
